New Racism: Black African Immigrant Caregivers Curve out Life and Thrive
This research focuses on the experiences of racialized Black African immigrant care workers in lower mainland Vancouver. The project examines how this group of workers identify, experience and respond to isolation and marginalization. In this respect, the study conceptualizes ‘New racism’ as a lens to critically engage with the fluidity and dynamism of processes of racialization, and an avenue to explore the political strategies care workers utilize to navigate these and thrive, regardless.
More than a # Black Millennials Matter!
This project explores how Black millennial youth in North America contextualize their “daily” school and work experiences, within a historical context of systemic oppression and an unprecedented mobilization by the Global Movement for Black Lives Matter (GM4BLM). The project considers Black Millennials as a distinctively ‘new political generation,' whose worldviews are revolutionized by the synergy between the GM4BLM protests, and the realities of their often marginalized social locations.
